Actor Ajaz Khan arrested on charges of promoting communal hatred

Mumbai: Actor Ajaz Khan was arrested by the cyber cell of Mumbai Police on charges of promoting communal hatred. He had allegedly uploaded communally sensitive video on popular video sharing platform TikTok.

According to police officials, the actor was arrested under Section 153A and Section 67. Section 153A prohibits promoting enmity between two groups. Section 67 prohibits transmitting obscene material in electronic form.

According to police officials, Ramesh Solanki, a Shiv Sena worker, submitted a written complaint regarding two videos that the actor uploaded recently, on July 9.

After verifying the contents of the complaint, the police registered an FIR in the matter. They then called Ajaz Khan to the Cyber police station at Bandra Kurla Complex for inquiries on Thursday, where he was arrested.

“We found the videos had objectionable content mainly promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion and hatred among the public at large,” Mumbai Police spokesperson, DCP Manjunath Singe, said.

Ajaz seems to be the favourite child of controversies. In May, he was booked for allegedly assaulting two people at a fashion show in Navi Mumbai. In October last year, he was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Navi Mumbai Police after he was allegedly found to have eight pills of party drug ecstasy.

Khan had his ‘moment of fame’ when he participated in the seventh season of Bigg Boss. Later, he also appeared on Comedy Nights Bachao, Box Cricket League and Comedy Nights with Kapil. He has also worked in regional films like Rakht Charitra, Dookudu and Temper.
