Volkswagen Taigun launched in India; To rival Creta, Seltos and Kushaq

German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has launched its much awaited SUV Volkswagen Taigun in India today. With the launch of this mid-size SUV Volkswagen is looking forward to strengthen its market share in India.

Volkswagen Taigun is similar in many aspects to Skoda Kushaq. In the hierarchy of the Volkswagen vehicles in India, the Taigun will find its place below Volkswagen T-Roc. The Taigun was first showcased in Auto Expo in 2019.

In terms of engine, the VW Taigun gets an option for 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine or 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Both the engines get 6 speed manual transmission. However, the 1.0 TSI engine gets a 6 speed Automatic gearbox, while the 1.5 TSI engine gets a 7 speed Automatic (DSG) gearbox.

The 1.0-litre engine offers an 115PS of power and 178 Nm of maximum torque. On the other hand 1.5-litre engine churns power of 150 PS and a maximum torque of 250 Nm.

When it comes to the exterior of the vehicle the Volkswagen Taigun gets single piece headlights, a minimalist grille and lots of chrome finishing on the front. Even the rear end of the SUV gets lots of chrome treatment. The Taigun gets first-in-segment infinity LED tail lamps which run seamlessly from one side to another.

In terms of interior, the SUV gets a support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with a 10.1 inch infotainment screen. The 8 inch digital cockpit displays important information of the vehicle. The SUV also gets a sunroof and all digital instrument cluster. Key interior features include dual tone premium interiors, ambient lighting, leatherette seat upholstery, 385 litre boot space and a folding rear backrest (60:40 split). The ventilated seats of the Volkswagen Taigun keep the passengers comfortable in any condition. Some other features are premium sound system with 6 speakers, wireless mobile charging and voice command recognition etc.

The safety features of the SUV include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), multi collision brakes, auto dimming IRVM, hill hold control, 3 point seatbelts for all seats, park distance control and rear-view camera, ISOFIX child seat mount and other features. The cruise control of the Taigun makes driving more convenient at high speeds.

Volkswagen Taigun is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh- Rs 17.49 lakh (Ex-showroom Bhubaneswar). The Taigun takes on the likes of Hyundai Creata, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Hector etc.
