Mumbai: Riding on the jubilation of investors over the victory of BJP and its alliance in the General Election-2019, the Sensex and Nifty witnessed a record gain today.
In a first time ever soar, the BSE Sensex gained 1000 points of to break the 40, 000 mark for the first time on Thursday. Nifty crossed 12,000 mark to set a new record soon after the early counting of votes which pointed at a landslide victory of NDA guaranteeing the second term for Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister.
The gains in the benchmark indices became possible due to rally in banking, consumer durables and capital goods stocks on BSE.
Top gainers on Sexsex were YES Bank (8.13%), SBI (6.59%) and IndusInd Bank (6.55%). Out of the 30 Sensex stocks 28 trading in green.
As per the market report, Vedanta, ONGC, Bajaj Auto and Sun Pharma slipped up 1.92 %.
