Meet Rishad Premji, Son of billionaire who was richer than Mukesh Ambani, Adani

Rishad Premji is the son of Azim Premji who played a pivotal role in elevating Wipro, a billionaire who was richer than Mukesh Ambani.

In the realm of India’s business tycoons, the name Azim Premji has long been synonymous with success and philanthropy. Formerly richer than industry giants like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Shiv Nadar, and Cyprus Poonawalla, Azim Premji’s legacy has continued through his son, Rishad Premji.

Azim Premji, often hailed as the most charitable man in India, played a pivotal role in elevating Wipro, one of India’s prominent tech companies, to new heights. Currently boasting a market capitalization of Rs 1,99,000 crore, Wipro owes much of its success to the visionary leadership of Azim Premji, who assumed control of the company at a mere 21 years old.

After steering the IT giant for approximately 53 years, Azim Premji handed over the reins to his son, Rishad Premji. Durinf his tenure, Rishad navigated the company through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing exemplary management style and ethics.

A business major with a reputation for ethical leadership, Rishad Premji initiated a signification online discussion around moonlighting. In a display of solidarity with Wipro’s workforce, he opted for a 50% pay cut earlier this year in response to employee variable pay reductions. Notable, in the financial year 2022-23, Rishad’s compensation amounted to less than Rs 8 crore ($ 951,353). Even during the challenging year of 2019-20, he voluntarily accepted a 31% pay cut.

Joining Wipro in 2007, Rishad climbed the corporate ladder through various roles before assuming the position of Executive Chairman in 2019. Armed with an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in economics from Wesleyan University in the US, Rishad Premji also served as the Chairman of NASSCOM for the financial year 2018-19.

Currently residing in Bangalore with his wife and two children, Rishad Premji continues to steer Wipro with a vision inherited from his father, further solidifying the company’s position in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
