Honda to introduce a mid-size SUV in India in 2023, might be a hybrid just like Honda City Hybrid

Japanese car maker Honda is expected to introduce a midsize SUV in the Indian market, suggested various reports on the internet. Honda has also confirmed about the launch. The mid-sized SUV is expected to launch in India in 2023. There are chances that the upcoming SUV will be offered in a hybrid setup apart from diesel and petrol variants.

The new compact SUV by Honda is expected to share its underpinnings with the Honda City. In terms of engine we can expect a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine which is present in the City. However, if Honda plans to introduce the hybrid variant of the SUV, it will borrow the hybrid powertrain from the Honda City hybrid.

The upcoming Honda SUV could be similar to that of N7X concept which was revealed in Indonesia in 2021. The SUV is expected to receive some cabin features from Honda City. In terms of safety, the SUV will get some advanced features like 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), auto-dimming interior mirror, Hill Start Assist (HSA), multi-angle rearview camera, lanewatch camera, tyre pressure monitoring system etc.

The mid-size SUV segment in India is dominated by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. On the other hand, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun entered the segment last year (2021). Contrastingly, Honda does not have any mid-size SUV in India. Considering the value for money, Honda offers in its cars, an SUV in the Rs 11 lakh-Rs 18 lakh segment can be a game-changer.

Honda has recently unveiled the new Honda City Hybrid in India. It is powered by two electric motors that work along with a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. The 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC generates a power of 98PS of power and a torque of 127 Nm. However, when it is paired with the electric motor the combined power is 126 PS. The total torque of the sedan is 253 Nm. The fuel efficiency of the Honda City Hybrid is 26.5 kmpl (ARAI).
