Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted with electric sunroof; Launch in 2024

Mahindra & Mahindra has spotted testing the 5-door Thar prototype on the roads. The upcoming Thar model was seen with an electric sunroof.

Mahindra & Mahindra has spotted testing the upcoming 5-door Thar prototype on the roads in India. But what grabs the attention this time is there seems to be a sunroof on the Mahindra 5-door Thar. Earlier, Mahindra’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (Auto and Farm Sector) Rajesh Jejurikar had revealed that the Thar 5-door will be launched in 2024 and not 2023.

Now, a new spy image of the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door has been shared by an Instagram user (the_reels_news). The image shows the SUV with an electric sunroof. This will surely bring about a significant change in the off-roader. Since this will be the first Thar model to have a sunroof. The current 3-door Thar selling in India does not have an electric sunroof.

The image has also hinted at some new features and updates about the new model. The 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door with the sunroof will feature a hard top as standard instead of a convertible top which was seen in the 3-door Thar.

Earlier this year, Mahindra launched the RWD variant of the 3-door Thar. The SUV was initially introduced in October 2020 with 4WD as standard.

Mahindra offers the 3-door Thar with a 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel engine that produces 117bhp and 300Nm, another 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel motor that makes 130bhp and 300Nm. There is also a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol powertrain offering 150bhp/320Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine can be paired with a 6-speed MT. The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol mills have 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT choices.

While the 3-door Thar is priced between Rs 10,54,500 and Rs 16,77,501 (ex-showroom), the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door will come with a premium and this could be up to Rs 2 lakh.
