Kia working on EV2 city hatchback, Expected to be a small affordable EV

Kia is reportedly working on an affordable and small EV2 city hatchback. The EV2 is expected to make it's debut in Europe in 2026.

Kia has confirmed that it is working on an affordable and small EV2 city hatchback at the company’s first EV Day event in Seoul, South Korea. The EV2 is expected to make it’s debut and go on sale in Europe in 2026. Later, it will arrive in other markets.

Kia EV2 features

The Kia EV2, along with the EV3, EV4 and EV5, will use Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform that is seen in EV6 and flagship EV9. The EV will be designed and produced in the company’s European plant in Slovakia. The production version of the EV3 will be rolled out next year and the EV5 will go on sale in 2025. Meanwhile, the EV4 and the smaller EV2 will launch in 2026.

The EV will likely be a small B-segment machine. It would either be a hatchback or have some rugged crossover design cues.

The EV2 is expected to be offered with single- and twin-motor powertrains. It will be based on the same E-GMP platform as the other EV models of Kia.

The EV3, EV4 and EV5 will all use a new version of the E-GMP modular architecture that runs at 400V, in part to keep costs down, and this version is also likely to be used for the EV2. As a result, it wouldn’t be capable of ultra-fast charging, although this is unlikely to be a major requirement of family buyers travelling shorter distances.

Kia EV2 will also get a performance-oriented GT version

The  EV2 will get a hot GT version as the firm had previously said it would offer a performance-led GT variant of every model in its EV line-up.

Kia EV line-up in India

Kia currently offers the EV6 and flagship EV9 in Kia’s global range of born-electric cars. The Kia EV6 is available for purchase in India and the EV9 flagship is due next year. A mass-market EV model from the brand, likely a Carens EV will go on sale in India by 2025. The new EV will follow the EV3 small SUV, EV4 saloon an EV5 family SUV, which will all go on sale within the next three years.
