Cuttack: While devotees in large number thronged the holy Dhabaleswar temple in Athagarh of Cuttack today on the occasion of ‘Bada Osha’, a maniac monkey raided a local hotel located close to it and left people in a state of panic before being caught by forest officials.
As per the report, the monkey sneaked into one Nirupama Hotel possibly in search of food leaving customers ran away from it. Later, the hotel staff closed all the doors and windows of the room to trap the mammal which went in vain.
Later, forest officials from Athagarh were called up and a team reached the spot to launched a drive to catch it. They succeeded in trapping the monkey following a Herculean effort.
Post the incident, local vendors have claimed that attack by maniac monkeys have become a regular affair at the Dhbaleswar peetha and a number of people have suffered bites and injuries in the same in past few months. They have demanded action on the part of the forest department to solve the issue.
