Poster Row In Odisha: Actor Papu Pom Pom Issues Clarification

Bhubaneswar: A day after police registered a case against the company producing Odia movie ‘Mr Kanhaiya’ staring actor Papu Pom Pom for disrespecting women in the poster for the film, the actor today issued a clarification.

The actor said that he never showed any disrespect towards any woman. “I had a conversation with the producer after the controversy surfaced. He denied me of releasing any official poster of the film so far. I have also never conceptualized such a poster for the film. So I urge people not to blame me. Action should be initiated against the concerned person who has released the poster,” he clarified.

The actor was earlier arrested in June 2016 on charges of promoting casting couch. The 40-year-old actor had allegedly exploited the girl luring her to the Odia cinema industry. The actor was subsequently granted bail.

The poster showed the actor holding ropes tied to the necks of seven girls. Several sections of people denounced the poster in the social media while people also demanded an unconditional apology from the actor and the production house as well. ‘Mr Kanhaiya’ directed by Ramesh Rout is set to release on September 2.

On the other hand, police said that a case has been registered in this connection. “Notice will be served to the production house and we have already started a probe to ascertain whether the poster was released from the movie set or someone else has released it,” said a police official.
