Odisha athlete Saraswati Rout selected for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: Athlete Saraswati Rout became the 8th Odia to be selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games-2018, commencing from April 4 at Gold Coast in Australia. Saraswati has been selected to represent India in 58 kg women’s category in weightlifting.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (48kg), Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu (53kg), Vandna Gupta (63kg), Punam Yadav (69kg), Seema (75kg), Lalchhanhimi (90kg) and Purnima Pandey (+90kg) are the other weightlifters who have made it to the CWG-2018.

Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Sunita Lakra and Lilima Minz are the four Odia hockey stars who also have been included in the 18-member Indian women’s hockey squad for the quadrennial tournament.

Sundergarh’s Amit Rohidas was earlier selected in Indian Men’s Hockey team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Apart from Rohidas, athletes Purnima Hembram and Jauna Murmu also have been included in the 31-member Indian athletic contingent to take part in the Commonwealth Games.
