Bhadrak: A youth was killed after being run over by an unknown vehicle in Motto Bazar on Chandbali-Bhadrak road in the district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Nishikant Behera, a resident of Chashakhand village under Motto police limits.
Nishikant was on his way to a neighbouring village in some work early in the morning when the mishap took place. Driver of an unknown four-wheeler, possibly a truck, which was heading to Bhadrak struck the victim from behind and dragged him for a few metres on Chandbali-Bhadrak road. He died on the spot after being crushed under the wheels.
Tension gripped the market following the mishap and angry locals resorted to a road blockade keeping the dead body. They demanded arrest of the accused driver and compensation to the victim’s kin. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both the sides of the road for hours due to the blockade.
Police had reached the spot and were trying to pacify the irate locals till this report was being filed.
