Prasanna Acharya could be the next Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman: Media Reports

Bhubaneswar: With the incumbent Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien’s tenure coming to an end this month, speculations are now rife that he could most probably be replaced by BJD vice-president and party’s leader in the Upper House Prasanna Acharya.

As per some media reports published on Friday, the senior BJD leader Acharya along with Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Ray are being considered as two most probable choices for this coveted post. These reports, though appears only speculative in nature without any political backing, still holds an importance in itself as BJD has maintained its stance of maintaining equi-distance from both BJP and Congress so far and in order to get elevated to the post Acharya needs support from either of both parties.

However, speaking to Kalinga TV over phone, Acharya rubbished the report and maintained that the final call in all such matters rests with BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

“I came to know about the report from media only. Media publishes such speculative reports first and then goes on analysing it. As far as the BJD is concerned there has been no change in party’s stand of maintaining a distance from both BJP and Congress,” quipped Acharya.
