Ho Chi Minh City: Ace Indian boxer MC Mary Kom won her fifth Asian Boxing Championship gold medal, first in the 48kg category, by defeating Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the summit clash here in Vietnam on Wednesday.

Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medalist defeated her Korean opponent in a unanimous 5-0 verdict.

35-year-old Mary Kom had won four gold medals and a Silver in her five previous appearances at the event in Flyweight (51 kg) category.

Mary Kom’s last medal came in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, where she became the first Indian woman boxer to win gold in the Women’s 51 kg category.

“@MangteC (48kg) punches her way to a fifth gold medal at the Asian Women’s Championship, taking Hyang Mi Kim (PRK) in her stride,” wrote Boxing Federation of India on Twitter.
