KISS first private organization in India to hire a transgender
Bhubaneswar: The city based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), which has created history in the world by providing education to more than 25,000 tribal students with free food and accommodation, added another feather to its cap on Saturday by employing a transgender.
With this, KISS became the first private organization in India to provide a job to a transgender.
Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta handed over the appointment letter to Sadhana Mishra with a bouquet and wished her every success.
“KISS has always worked for the development of the neglected and the underprivileged sections of the society, especially the tribals. It is a step to change the mindset of the people which they have about transgenders and to bring them to the mainstream of the society,” said Dr. Samanta.
Mishra, a resident of Keonjhar district, was ecstatic about getting appointment in KISS on the occasion of her birthday.
“I feel very proud and thankful to Dr. Achyuta Samanta for giving me the opportunity to work in KISS. Indeed, today is a very special day for me, because I got a chance to work in KISS and that too on my 33rd birthday,” said Mishra post her appointment.
Mishra, who is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) holder, has been working on gender identity, gender discrimination, social mainstreaming of transgenders, neglected children in Odisha and violence against women.
She had also got an opportunity to deliver a speech in the White House, USA on the development of transgenders.
