Jumbo tramples youth to death in Sundergarh

Rourkela: In the latest in man-animal conflict in the state, a wild pachyderm trampled a youth to death in Lankoi village under Nauagaon block in Kuanrmunda Forest Range in Sundergarh district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Siba Charan Kumbhar.

The mishap took place late in the night after a herd of wild elephants sneaked into the village in search of food and caused large scale devastation. In a bid to drive away the herd, a group of locals launched a campaign in the village of which Siba was a part. However, while trying to disperse the animals later in the night, Siba lost balance and fell down on the ground. A jumbo immediately pounced on him and trampled him brutally.

After sustaining critical injury, the victim was rushed to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in the city where he succumbed to injuries under treatment.
