Gangster Tito goes on a 5-day police remand

Kendrapara: The Kendrapara Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Wednesday permitted the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch to take notorious gangster Syed Usman Ali alias Tito on a five-day remand for interrogation.

The court granted the STF only five-day remand against its request for 10-day remand.

The gangster was discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack yesterday. He was undergoing treatment in the hospital after he was injured in police encounter on June 30 near Chandikhole in Jajpur district.

He was then produced before the judicial magistrate court amid tight security.

The court sent him to the Kendrapara Sub-jail after rejecting his pail.

Tito, who was allegedly running a crime syndicate from his cell in the jail, was last arrested from Kolkata in April 2006 in connection with murder of a contractor. He has faced trials in as many as 38 criminal cases like murder, dacoity, extortion, kidnapping and tender fixing.

He was released from Choudwar Jail on bail on September 15, 2010.  But, since then he was engaged in several criminal activities.
