CT 2017: England crush New Zealand by 87 runs
Cardiff: England registered their second consecutive win in ICC Champions Trophy with an emphatic 87-run win over New Zealand. England’s victory made Australia’s task difficult, as they have already faced two washouts.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. England posted a mammoth total of 310 in 49.3 overs. Alex Hales (56), Joe Root (64), Ben Stokes (48) and Joe Buttler (61*) were the top contributors. Adam Milne (3/79), Corey Anderson (3/55) and Tim Southee (2/44) were the top wicket takers.
In reply, New Zealand bowled out for 223 in 44.3 overs and lost the match by 87 runs. Kane Williamson was the top scorer with 87. Ross Taylor (39) and Guptill (27) were the other contributors. Liam Plunkett took 4/55. Jake Ball 2/31 and Adil Rashid 2/47 also did well to restrict New Zealand.
