Watch: Plane Wing Breaks Apart after Dramatic Runway Crash in Somalia; All Passengers Safe

Mogadishu: Wing of a small plane attempting to land at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia,  shattered into pieces after veering off the runway, and crashed into a fence. No fatalities were reported, and only minor injuries were sustained, according to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA).

The SCAA stated that a preliminary report would be released once the ongoing investigation concludes. Footage of the incident captured the plane skidding off the tarmac and breaking through a protective barrier, resulting in the plane’s wing catching fire and debris scattering in various directions.

The aircraft, operated by Halla Airlines, had 30 passengers and a crew of four on board. The pilot had not signaled any distress or reported any issues to air traffic control before the incident occurred, leaving experts puzzled as they work to determine the cause of the crash.

Fardowsa Osman Egal, the Somali Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, revealed that two individuals sustained injuries in the accident. Authorities are diligently investigating all aspects of the incident, and Halla Airlines has expressed its commitment to transparency.

This incident bears similarities to a previous mishap in July 2022, where 30 passengers miraculously survived a plane crash at the same airport, resulting in the aircraft somersaulting and ending up upside down during landing.

Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu serves as a crucial transportation hub, facilitating over 150 local and international flights daily. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the recent crash to ensure the highest level of safety standards.
