Two earthquakes hit Afghanistan in less than 30 minutes

Two earthquakes jolted the Fayzabad region of Afghanistan. According to reports, the two quakes hit the region in less than 30 minutes.

Afghanistan: Two earthquakes jolted the Fayzabad region of Afghanistan late Tuesday night. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the two quakes hit the region in less than 30 minutes.

The first quake measuring 4.4 magnitude occurred at 126 km east of Fayzabad at 12.28 IST at a depth of 80 km. Following the first tremor, a second earthquake struck at 12.55 IST, 100 km east-southeast of Fayzabad in less than 30 minutes. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.8 with a recorded depth of 140 km.

However, the seismic activity has not caused any property damage in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, at least 57 people were killed and widespread destruction of properties was caused in Japan after a series of powerful earthquakes struck the country on the first of new Year 2024.
