The Rail Bus has been introduced by the Chinese manufacturer CRRC, this self-driving vehicle, resembling a train but without tracks, completed its inaugural journey in 2017.
This Rail Bus was presented to the public in June 2023. The vehicle navigates on streets by tracing painted road markings. There is not tracks for the rail bus. The designs on the road serve as guide for the vehicle. There are inbuilt sensors, equipped with advanced technology, capture minute details of the road, in order to ensure an incredibly precise journey with millimeter-level accuracy.
Rail bus is a cheaper alternative to current transportation systems in China. The Chinese rail bus takes only 10 minutes of charging to cover 25 kilometres. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 43 miles per hour and has a lifespan of around 25 years.
One Rail Bus is capable of accommodating up to 300 passengers. According to reports, subway systems in China have an estimated cost between $57 million to $100 million, while the Rail Bus network’s construction is estimated to be only 20 percent of this cost. Hence, travelling through these Rail buses will cut your cost as well.
