Mexico: The powerful Hurricane Otis has made landfall near Acapulco. It has been assigned under category 5 hurricane by weather forecasts. This means that it is super strong and can cause a lot of damage. People have been warned that it could be a ‘nightmare scenario.’

The center of hurricane Otis made landfall at the southern coast of Mexico at around 12:25 AM local time. At that time, the winds blew at a speed of 165 km per hour, as per the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

On Tuesday, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador warned the residents of Guerrero to find a safe place and stay away from rivers and streams for security reasons.

The Center has also warned of “destructive waves” and heavy flooding in coastal areas, including the popular Acapulco resort.

A hurricane warning is now in effect for a 350 km-long stretch of coastline between the coastal towns of Zihuatanejo and Punta Maldonado in the state of Guerrero.

The report from NHC also said that Otis was expected to produce up to 15 inches of rainfall on Friday across Guerrero and western coastal areas of the neighbouring Oaxaca state.
