Iran urges India to use all its capacities to end Israel Gaza war

Iranian President has urged India to leverage “all its capacities" to help put an end to the Israel actions in Gaza amidst ongoing war.

New Delhi: Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, engaged in a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, where he called upon India to leverage “all its capacities” to help put an end to the Israeli actions in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict.

In the Iranian statement regarding the call, President Raisi noted India’s historical struggles against Western colonialism and its significant role as one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement in the world.

The statement read, “Today, India is expected to use all its capacities to end the Zionist crimes against the oppressed people of Gaza.”

Additionally, President Raisi expressed Tehran’s support for any international collaborative efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire, lifting the blockade, and providing aid to the oppressed population in Gaza.

He also underlined the global outrage at the ongoing loss of Palestinian lives and emphasized that this situation could have consequences beyond the region.

President Raisi stated, “The continuation of the killing of the Palestinian people has infuriated all the free nations of the world, and this killing will have extra-regional consequences.”

He condemned the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as the attacks on hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, and residential areas. He regarded these acts as “condemned and unacceptable” from a humanitarian perspective.

Raisi asserted the legitimate right of Palestinian resistance groups to confront the occupation by the Israeli regime and called for global support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom.

He also questioned the double standards, asking why the resistance of European countries against Nazi Germany is considered admirable while the Palestinian people’s resistance against the “child-killing and criminal Zionist regime” is condemned.

In another part of the conversation, President Raisi characterized the relationship with India as ‘strategic’ and emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation and addressing any existing delays.

He highlighted the significance of the North-South Corridor and encouraged India to make “serious investments” to bolster sustainable economic cooperation, including at Chabahar Port.

Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of preventing further escalation, ensuring the continued provision of humanitarian aid, and restoring peace and stability in the region.

Both leaders also acknowledged the progress in bilateral cooperation, particularly regarding the Chabahar port.

Since Israel initiated its conflict with Hamas on October 7, Prime Minister Modi has maintained regular telephone discussions with world leaders to address the situation. Notably, he recently spoke with the UAE President, Mohammaed Bin Zayed, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in talks with his Iranian counterpart Amirabdollahian, all focusing on the Israel-Hamas war and the need for humanitarian support and de-escalation in the region.
