Amazon CEO’s Phone Hacked By Saudi Authorities, Says Security Chief

Washington: Jeff Bezos’ security consultant accused the Saudi government of gaining unauthorized access to the Amazon CEO’s phone, as part of an effort to harm the world’s richest man.

The investigator, Gavin de Becker, hired to look into the release of intimate images of Jeff Bezos said that he has linked the hack to extensive coverage by The Washington Post newspaper, which is owned by Bezos, of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul last year.

The Post has aggressively reported on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, one of its columnists, who was killed in October in Turkey. U.S. officials have concluded Khashoggi, who was critical of Saudi leaders, was killed on the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

But de Becker did not specify which part of the Saudi government he was blaming for the hack.

However, he said that he had turned over his findings of the Saudis and their role against Bezos to law enforcement.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has stressed that the crown prince was not involved in the killing of Khashoggi, a Post contributing columnist.

Riyadh initially said it had no knowledge of his fate, but later blamed the murder on rogue agents.
