7 killed in stampede near Kabul Airport: Britain

London: As many as seven people died due to a stampede near Kabul Airport in Afghanistan. This was informed by Britain on Sunday.

According to the British defence secretary, thousands of people had gathered near Kabul Airport to flee Afghanistan with an aim to escape Taliban atrocity. However, they started to run away from the spot as Taliban fighters blank fired.

“Our sincere thoughts are with the families of the seven Afghan civilians who have sadly died in crowds in Kabul,” a defence Ministry spokesman said without giving the circumstances, reported ndtv.com.

The defence secretary said that the conditions on the ground remain extremely challenging and Britain would support Washington’s end-of-the-month deadline to permit the evacuation of the stranded people at the Kabul Airport.
