6.2 magnitude earthquake shakes Sri Lanka; Tremors felt in Colombo

Colombo: In a seismic event on Tuesday afternoon, Sri Lanka experienced a significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2, as reported by the National Center for Seismology. The earthquake occurred at 12:31:10 IST, with its epicenter located 1326km southeast of Colombo, Sri Lanka, at a depth of 10 km.
The National Center for Seismology shared details on social media, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, Occurred on 14-11-2023, 12:31:10 IST, Lat: -2.96 & Long: 86.54, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 1326km SE of Colombo, Sri Lanka.”
Despite the intensity of the quake, there have been no immediate reports of casualties. The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau assured that there is no imminent danger to Sri Lanka, as the earthquake was reported 800km southeast of the island nation in the Indian Ocean.
