Islamabad: In a tragic incident, five police officials lost their lives while 22 people were left injured in a blast near a police van in Pakistan. The blast took place in Mamund Tehsil of Pakistan’s Bajaur district, confirmed reliable reports.

Reportedly, the team of police personnel was on their way in order to provide security to the polio teams for an ongoing vaccination campaign in the region. Reports from police suggest that the van was targeted with an IED (Improvised Explosive Device).

The injured in the blast near police van in Pakistan were rushed to nearby hospital for immediate medical assistance. Khar district Medical superintendent Wazir Safi said in a statement that 10 of the 22 people were transferred to the Peshawar medical facility as their health conditions worsened.

As a result of the blast, the polio campaign in the area was suspended for the time being. According to an official statement by Rescue 1122, rescue teams in Mohmand and Lower Dir districts have been put on ‘alert.’
