2 killed in blast near Election Office in Afghanistan

Jalalabad (Afghanistan): At least two people were killed in a suicide attack near the Election Commission office in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province today.

According to Nangarhar governor’s spokesperson Attaullah Khogyanai, the attack occurred around 11.20 AM during a protest killing two persons on the spot and leaving four others severely wounded.

The injured were admitted to the local hospital in serious condition.

However, till now no group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The protest was held over the disqualification of candidate Jawid Zaman by the poll body ahead of the parliamentary as well as local elections scheduled for October 20, Khogyanai added.

The insurgents have been targeting the electoral process for the parliamentary election since the voter registration process commenced on April 14.
