13 killed, 178 injured in a massive fuel depot explosion in Guinea’s Conakry

At least 13 people were killed and 178 others sustained injuries in a massive explosion at the Guinean Petroleum Company fuel depot in Guinea.

Guinea: At least 13 people were killed and 178 others sustained injuries in a massive explosion at the Guinean Petroleum Company fuel depot in Guinea’s capital city Conakry.

According to reports, the incident took place after midnight on Sunday. The fire has been brought under control by the firefighters. The Kaloum administrative district has been badly damaged due to the explosion and the following blaze. Many government offices have been destroyed in the explosion and fire.

The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion. However, it is suspected that the explosion took place during a ship offloading at the fuel depot.

Among the deceased, many are said to be foreigners.  The Guinea government has updated that out of the 178 injured people, 89 have been treated and have been sent to their homes.

The neighboring nations have also extended a helping hand to assist Guinea.
