11 killed after group clash erupts in Mexico

At least 11 people lost their lives after a clash erupted between two groups of people in Mexico on Friday.

Mexico: At least 11 people lost their lives after a clash erupted between two groups of people in Mexico. The clash reportedly erupted on Friday, between a criminal gang and the residents of a small farming community in Central Mexico.

A video of the incident showed villagers chasing suspected gang members amid gunfire. The villagers were seen armed with scythes and hunting rifles. The incident took place in Texcaltitlan. It is a hamlet about 130 kilometers southwest of Mexico City, in the state of Mexico.

According to the local police, eight of the deceased in Mexico group clash were members of the criminal gang, while three were village residents. Although the gang was not identified, the involvement of the notorious Familia Michoacana drug Carter comes under high suspicion. Reports suggest that the gunmen of Familia Michoacana had visited the village earlier, demanding extortion fees from local farmers.

Drug cartels in Mexico often extort money from various businesses, resorting to violence against those who refuse to comply. The Familia Michoacana is infamous for ambushing police and, in 2022, massacring 20 townspeople in Totolapan, Guerrero state, including the town’s mayor and 18 others. The concerned authorities are yet to make any comment on the reported extortion demands.
