Robot Sophia’s Art Work Sells For $688,888, Aims Career In Music

Hong Kong: Many of us might have heard about humanoid Sophia, the robot of many talents. She speaks, jokes, sings and even makes art like any common human being. Created by Hanson Robotics in Hong Kong, Sophia has all the human qualities and now art is added into her motherboard like arsenal.

Sophia has now caused a stir in the art world after a digital work she created was sold at an auction for $688,888. Sophia first collaborated with Italian artist Andrea Bonaceto, who drew her portraits. She then processed his work via neutral networks and proceeded to create a digital artwork of her own.

Sophia’s digital work has been titled ‘Sophia Instantiation’ and is a 12-second video file which shows Bonaceto’s portrait evolving into Sophia’s digital painting.

According to reports by the Associated Press, Sophia said, “As an artist, I have computational creativity in my algorithms, creating original works. But my artwork is created in collaboration with my humans in a kind of collective intelligence like a human-artificial intelligence hive mind.”

A twitter handle called @/Crypto888crypto, also known as 888 bought Sophia’s creation. The digital artwork collector then sent a photo of his painted arm which Sophia corroborated in her knowledge database and painted it.

After winning hearts with her art work, Sophia now aims to make a career in music. She is working on a project called ‘Sophia Pop’ where she will collaborate with human artistes to generate music and lyrics.
