Woman, 2 children charred to death in Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: In a tragic incident, a woman along with her two children have been charred to death at Dhipasahi in Unchagaon under Jharpokharia police limits in Mayurbhanj district late on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as Surukuni Marandi (24), Sarita Marandi (4), and Jagdish Marandi, (3-months-old).

Reportedly, Surukuni was in deep sleep along with her two kids when the fire engulfed their house last night at around 2 am.

On getting the information, the Jharpokharia police team along with the Sarasakana firefighters arrived at the spot and took control of the blaze. However, all of them were found burnt to death.

From the preliminary investigation, Mangal Marandi told police that the fire broke out while the family was asleep. It has been learnt that Mangal had married another woman earlier. Later he got married to Surukuni after getting divorced from his first wife due to some family feud.

The cause behind the tragic incident is yet to be ascertained. The cops have detained Mangal and have initiated an investigation into the mystery fire mishap due to which the mother along with two minor kids were burnt to death.

“The body will be sent for post-mortem to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College (PRMMCH) after the arrival of the scientific team from Baripada,” informed DSP Mukti Kumar Kulu.
