Jharsuguda: Taking ahead the investigation process in January 10 attack on a Vedanta Ltd official, police arrested five accused including a minor from Badamala area in the district on Sunday.

At least 8 bike-borne miscreants had opened fire at Jharsuguda Vedanta Ltd senior official Dilip Sahu along with a colleague near Sunarimunda Vedanta Township Main Gate on January 10 and fled away.

Police have arrested the main accused Manmohan Singh, a resident of Badamala and president of a local group ‘Fight for Right’.

Informing on the arrest at a press conference, Jharsuguda SDPO Kailash Chandra Acharya said the accused were arrested after Badamala Police got a tip-off on their hideout last night and conducted a raid.

“The raid was conducted late in the night by Badamala Police and five persons including a minor were taken into custody from their hideouts. 3 pistols, 28 live bullets along with 3 bikes were seized from their possession,” said Acharya.

“Another accused in the case is still absconding and police is trying to nab him,” he added.

While the officials had a close shave in the attack, the incident raised serious concerns on the safety and security of the staffs in the district.
