Unable to pay exorbitant interest, woman commits suicide in Nabarangpur

Nabaranpur: A woman allegedly committed suicide after being unable to pay high interest rates on the loan she had taken from a finance company. The woman, identified as Padma Muduli, was a resident of Aaunliguma village under Tentuikhuti block of Nabarangpur district.

As per reports, the woman along with 10 other ladies of the village had taken a loan of Rs 30,000 each from a Finance Company. After receiving her share, Padma had invested the entire amount in agriculture. She was hard hit for cash and waiting for the harvest season, after which she intended to repay the loan.

However, the finance company which had loaned Padma money was continuously pressurising her to pay a monthly interest of Rs 1,660 over the loan amount. Furthermore, two employees of the company were allegedly yielding constant pressure and sending feelers every 15 days to pay the exorbitant interest, which was adding to her woes.

Helpless and in a mire of debt, the woman allegedly ended her life by consuming pesticide.
