Balangir: In a tragic turn of events, the distressed farmer from Kuliadaro village under Turekela block in the district who attempted to commit suicide yesterday died under treatment at Balangir DHH in the wee hours on Friday.
The deceased farmer identified as Bhagat Sagaria had consumed pesticide last morning during a visit to his cropland where he cultivated cotton and suffered crop failure.
He was first rushed to Kantabanji CHC by family members and was later shifted to Balangir DHH due to critical condition.
Informing on the incident, Bhagat’s elder brother Hira Sagaria said, the victim had taken loans from a number of moneylenders in Kantabanji area for cotton cultivation. However, as he suffered a crop failure at a later stage and found him unable to repay the loans, chose to take the extreme step finally.
