Bhawanipatna: A minor girl was killed after being run over by a truck in Nunmath village under Kesinga block of Kalahandi district today.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Shau of Bogada village.
Sasmita had gone to Kesinga with her father in some work this morning and was trying to cross the Boriguma-Bargarh road at around 7.30 am when the mishap took place. The driver of a speeding truck which was coming from Balangir lost control over the wheels and mowed the girl down.
The driver of the truck escaped from the spot by leaving the truck after the accident.
Tension gripped the area following the mishap as irate locals blocked the road demanding suitable compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
Police rushed to the spot and seized the truck involved in the accident. Later, cops tried to pacify the mob and their effort was underway till this report was being filed.
