Six Arrested In Odisha For Kidnapping Youth And Demanding Rs 10 Lakh Ransom

Rayagada: Police have arrested six accused including three minors for allegedly kidnapping a youth and demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom, police said today.

Police said that the incident took place on Tuesday when the 19-year-old victim Bibhuti Pujari, a resident of Rampur under Subarnapur district, was travelling to Titlagarh on Dhanbad-Alleppy express.

“Five miscreants who were also in the same train impersonated themselves as police and accused Pujari of ganja trading. They later forced him alight from the train at Lada station. Later six other members of the gang joined and took Pujari to a mango orchard on the outskirts of Rayagada town,” said a police official.  

The miscreants them called Pujari’s father and demanded a ransom Rs 10 lakh. The accused also threatened to kill Pujari if his family failed to pay the ransom or informed the police.

However Pujari’s father reported the matter with Rayagada Town police station after which police reached the accused by tracing the mobile phone which was used to make the ransom call.

Police have one SUV, an auto-rickshaw, one motorcycle, one gun and two rounds of ammunition from the accused. “This was a case of random kidnapping. The accused presumed the family of the victim to be rich,” added the police official.
