Red Warning in Odisha: Heavy to very heavy rainfall to lash these districts due to Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD’

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha under the influence of Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD.’

While issuing Red Warning for Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts, the IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places with extremely heavy falls at one or places (more than 20 cm) over the districts of Puri, and Jagatsinghpur.”

The weatherman also sounded Orange Warning for Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Likewise, Yellow Warning has been issued for Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts where heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places.

The warning has been issued till 8.30 AM tomorrow.

Cyclonic Storm JAWAD

The weather department said that the Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD’ over the west-central Bay of Bengal continued to move nearly northwards with a speed of 4 kmph during past 06 hours and lay centered at 1130 hrs IST of today, the 04th December 2021, over the west-central Bay of Bengal near Lat. 16.4°N and Long. 84.8°E, about 210 km east-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 320 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha), 390 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha) and 470 km south-southwest of Paradip (Odisha).

It is likely to move nearly northwards during next 06 hours and then move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast, weaken gradually and reach near Puri around 5th December noon as a Deep Depression. Subsequently, it is likely to weaken further and continue to move north-northeastwards along Odisha coast towards the West Bengal coast.
