Private buses’ strike enters third day in Berhampur; Dist Admin to run 10 city buses

Berhampur: The Ganjam District Administration and Berhampur Development Authority have decided to run at least 10 city buses from here in Odisha to cater the commuters as private buses did not ply for the third consecutive day today.

“We have decided to run 10 more city buses from Berhampur to various places including Digapahandi, Chikiti, Rambha etc,” said BDA Commissioner Sambit Raout.

“We also asked the private buses parked at the bus stand to vacate immediately”, he added.

The decision came after the Ganjam District Private Bus Operators’ Association had decided to continue its strike protesting against the district administration’s decision to relocate the recently constructed bus terminal to Haldiapadar on the city’s outskirts from July 1.

More than 700 buses connected from the city to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Aska, Phulbani, Boudh and other parts of the state stayed off the road, leaving the commuters stranded at the bus terminal.

Commuters wishing to travel to interior pockets of the district and other parts of the state that do not have train communication had a harrowing time due to the strike.
