PM Modi condoles demise of Mihir Das, Last Rites to be performed with full State Honour today

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the death of legendary Odia film actor Mihir Das. The veteran actor took his last breath on Tuesday at the age of 63.

“Saddened by the demise of noted Odia actor Shri Mihir Das Ji. During his long film career, he won many hearts thanks to his creative performances. My thoughts are with his family and admirers, Om Shanti,” Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet.

Till the last reports came in, the mortal remains of the Mihir Das, which is now kept at his Cuttack-based house, will be taken to Satichaura at around 9 AM today and will be laid to rest with full state honours.

It is to be noted that the actor was admitted at a private hospital in Cuttack on December 7 for the treatment of kidney-related ailments. He was put on ventilator support after his health condition became critical. However, he breathed his last last evening.

Meanwhile, renowned sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik also expressed deep grief over the demise of veteran Odia film actor Mihir Das.

Mihir Das was born in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj on February 17, 1959. He debuted in the Odia film industry with an art film School Master and then in commercial (non-art) film Mathura Bijay in 1979.

He was married to singer Sangita Das, the daughter of the popular singer, Chitta Jena. She died due to a heart attack.

Mihir Das and Sangita Das have a son, Amlan Das, who is also an actor in the Ollywood industry.

He received wider applause and recognition for his performance in Pua Mora Bholashankar. A veteran actor for more than three decades, he received Best Actor award from the state government for his performance in movies Laxmi Protima in 1998 and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni in 2005.
