Odisha Municipal Election Violence: Voting Halts At 4 Booths In Dhamnagar NAC

Bhadrak: The voting has been halted at four booths in Dhamnagar NAC of Bhadrak district just a minutes before the timing to cast votes will come to an end.

Reportedly, the four booths are 3, 16, 17, 18 of Dhamnagar NAC where the polling has been halted due to violence.

A youth, identified as Ramesh Kumar Lenka, has been stabbed by some unidentified miscreants with a sharp weapon outside polling booth number 16 in Ward number 9 of Dhamnagar NAC in Bhadrak district.

The incident took place allegedly due to an altercation over casting vote sustaining severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) and is undergoing treatment.

The enraged locals staged a road blockade in the area by burning tyres and also broke the EVM machine.

The voting for the 106 Urban Local Bodies and three municipal corporations of the State which began at 8 AM will continue till 5 PM.

Over 40.55 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. As many as 6411 candidates are in the fray for the election. While 569 candidates are contesting for the post of chairperson and mayor, 5,842 candidates are there for the election to councillor and corporator seat.
