Odisha: Miscreant loots Rs 34 lakhs from ATMs in Rourkela, 1 held

Rourkela: A miscreant looted Rs 34 lakhs from different ATMs in multiple attempts in Rourkela of Sundergarh district in Odisha. He managed to get password of the ATM and looted the money. One person has been arrested in this connection.

The accused person has been identified as Harish Chandra Das.

As per reports, the accused is an employee of a private ATM Cash management company. The accused and another staff of the company put use to put cash money in ATMs. The accused somehow managed to get the password from the other one and took out Rs 34 lakhs from four different ATMs in instalments in the last one year.

After a while the bank came to know about Rs 34 lakh deficit following an audit. Accordingly, the bank lodged a formal complaint with police regarding this.

Police started investigation of the case. Doubt centred on the employees who put the cash money in the ATM machines. During investigation it was known that money has been withdrawn from different ATMs in instalments. The money has been illegally withdrawn from ATMs in sector 19, sector 7 and under Chhenda Thana limits.

A special team has been formed by Rourkela Police and the culprit was arrested in sector 7 police station jurisdiction. Further probe of the case is underway, said Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, SP of Rourkela Police district.
