Odisha hikes compensation for wild animal attack deaths Bhubaneswar: With incidents of animal attack constantly on the rise in the state, the Odisha government has increased the compensation for death due to wild animal attack from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh on the occasion of ‘63rd State Level Wildlife Week’ here today.

This was announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while addressing a function at Jaydev Bhawan today. He said the compensation amount for death of sheep and goats has been increased to Rs 2,000 and for lamb death to Rs 750.

Patnaik also presented the Biju Patnaik Award for Wildlife Conservation for the year 2016-17 to Chakradhar Hembram of Mayurbhanj for his outstanding contribution in the field of Wildlife Conservation.

The CM presented Hembram Rs 2 lakh cash, a citation and a shawl.
