Odisha: Forest Guard and Watch Man apprehended for taking Rs 15,000 bribe

Jharsuguda: Odisha Vigilance today apprehended a Forest Guard and Watch Man for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

The arrestees have been identified as Jharana Sahoo, the Forest Guard of Banaharpalli Beat and Sanjay Barik, the Watch Man of Bandhabahal Forest Section in Jharsuguda district.

The vigilance officials arrested the duo while they were accepting the Rs.15,000 bribe from a Complainant to give permission and facilitate cutting of trees from the homestead land of the Complainant.

As per the direction Sahoo,  Barik while receiving demanded bribe from the Complainant, was nabbed by the Vigilance team. The accused Forest Guard was also present at the spot.

The entire bribe money has been recovered from accused Barik and seized. Following the trap simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Sahoo from DA angle.

In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance P.S. Case No.31 dtd.10.12.2023, U/s.7 P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against accused Sahoo and Watchman.
