Odisha Fishermen Net Rare Marlin Fishes

Paradip: Fishermen have netted three rare saltwater in Bay of Bengal near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district last night.

The marine fishes called ‘Marlin’ and locally known as ‘Panikua’ were caught by fishermen in the sea off Paradip coast.

Marlin, which has about 10 subspecies, has an elongated body, a spear-like snout and a long, rigid dorsal fin which extends forward to form a crest.

Fishermen said that one fish weighed 1.5 quintal while the two others were estimated to be 60 kg each. Large number of people thronged to have a glimpse of the rare fishes.

Earlier in October a 4.5-feet Marlin fish was caught by fishermen from deep sea off the Dhamra coast in Bhadrak district.
