Balasore: Tension ran high at Golei Chhak in Remuna Town of Balasore district last night after the death of a hotel owner in police custody.
Industrial Police had detained the hotel owner Ratikant Das, a hotel owner on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in illicit liquor trade.
Das, however, was rushed SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his health condition deteriorated. Das died while undergoing treatment at the hospital last night.
Das’s death sparked outrage among locals and they resorted to road blockade at Remuna Golei Chhak accusing the cops responsible for his death.
Senior police officials reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have also deployed two platoons of force in the area to prevent any further untoward incident.
