Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated star Indian batter Virat Kohli for creating history by scoring record 50th ODI century.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated star Indian batter Virat Kohli for creating history by scoring record 50th ODI century.

Taking to his X handle, Patnaik said, “Congratulate @imVkohli for creating history by scoring record 50th ODI century at the crucial semi final of #ICCCricketWorldCup23. May he continue to showcase his outstanding form and bring glory to the nation. Wish him all the very best.”

It is to be noted here that Kohli created three records while playing against New Zealand in World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today.

With his majestic innings of 106* runs, Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single ODI World Cup edition. In the ongoing world cup, he has scored 674* runs in 10 innings, while Tendulkar had scored 673 runs in 11 innings during the 2003 ODI World Cup edition.

Virat also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries by hitting his 50th century today. This apart, he became the first-ever cricketer to register eight fifty-plus scores in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. Earlier, Tendulkar and Shakib Al Hasan had seven 50-plus innings in the 2003 and 2019 editions respectively.
