Puri: The famous festival of Ram Navami is being observed with religious fervour in the State after two years of strict Covid restrictions.
Thousands of devotees have been seen in crowds in temples across Odisha on the auspicious occasion. Since last two years, the devotees were not allowed inside religious institutions in view of the spread of deadly coronavirus cases.
However, this year devotees were seen standing in long queues outside the temple since early morning.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has wished the people of State and wrote ” I greet the people of the state on the occasion of the ninth holy month of Ram. May the blessings of Lord Shriram make all people’s lives prosperous and happiness, peace and prosperity,” on his official Twitter account.

On the occasion of Ram Navami, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a mesmerising sculpture of Lord Ram along with a miniature of Ayodhya’s Ram temple.
“I have made an idol of Lord Ram along with a miniature of Ayodhya’s Ram temple, its height is 6 feet. I pray the temple is built soon,” said Patnaik.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Happy Ram Navami to the countrymen. May everyone get happiness, peace and prosperity in life by the grace of Lord Shri Ram.”

The President of India has also extended wishes to the people of the country. He took to his official Twitter account and wrote “Happy Ram Navami to all the countrymen. Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram’s life, his conscientiousness and high ideals are the source of guidance and inspiration for the entire humanity. Let us all take a pledge to contribute to nation building by imbibing the ideals of Lord Ram in our lives.”

Ram Navami is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ram to King Dasharath and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya in Treta Yuga on the ninth day of the light half of the month of Chaitra.
This festival is widely celebrated by the performances of Ram Leela (the sport of Rama) based on the famous epic Ramayana. Beginning from this day the performances continue for over a month. The Ram Leela, held in Asureswar of Cuttack district and Dasapalla of Puri district are well known.
On this day, people visit temples dedicated to Lord Ram, who is also known as “Maryada Purushottam”, and pray to him to show them the right path in life and conduct.
Lord Ram was the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He established a welfare state for his people and set an example for everyone to follow. He was devoid of greed, hatred and vices, and stood for what was right, against powerful adversaries, and protected the weak.
Devotees pray for peace, wealth, and success on this day, and seek Lord Ram’s blessings.
