Sonepur: In a tragic incident, atleast five persons were killed and five others sustained critical injuries in a road mishap after an SUV and a truck collided on Mahanadi bridge in Sonepur district in the wee hours of Saturday.
Sources say, atleast 10 persons were enroute to Nimna village under Ullunda block of Sonepur from Kaudiamunda village, Binika after attending a marriage function in an SUV when the ill-fated speeding truck collided with them, killing five persons on the spot and leaving the SUV completely mangled.
On being informed about the accident, the Sonepur police reached the spot and rescued the five others from the vehicle with the help of gas cutter.
Later, the police rushed the injured to the Burla medical college and hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the police have started a probe into the accident.
The identity of the persons has not been ascertained yet.
