Berhampur: Mystery animal fear shifted to Ganjam district from Niali last night with the predator killing at least 23 sheep in Karapada village under Digapahandi police limits.

The sheep killings were reported from the houses of two residents namely Harichandra Gouda and Lalu Gouda. After inspecting their cattle sheds this morning the locals found those in a disorganised state with sheep lying in a pool of blood. Deep injury marks were also found on the neck areas of the carcasses. However, no pugmarks of the mysterious animal were found in and around the shed.

Digapahandi Forest Division officials reached the spot along with a team of Veterianry doctors getting information on the incident later in the day and examined the dead sheep.

“From the examination of the carcasses it appears to be a handiwork of some wild animal. The sheep have been died of the injuries caused on their necks by deep nail indentations of the predator. Liver of two sheep were also found missing pointing at the same modus operandi of the killer like that in Niali in Cuttack”, said Digapahandi Veterinary official Asish Kumar Dora.
