Nabakalebara Fiasco: SJTA serves notice to 11 servitors

Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has served notice to as many as 11 servitors in connection with the inordinate delay in the performance of the Brahma Paribartan ritual during the Nabakalebara festival in 2015.

The temple administration has served notices on a Maharana (carpenter) servitor and 10 Daita servitors for delaying rituals of the holy  Trinity – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

“The temple administration will take punitive action against the servitors if they fail to provide satisfactory replies on the Brahma Paribartan issue. If required, criminal proceedings would be initiated against the servitors,” said a SJTA oddicial on conditions of anonymity.

The Brahma Paribartan ritual, the most secret ritual of Nabakalebara festival which comes once every 12 or 19 years, was scheduled to be performed at the midnight of June 15, 2015. However, the ritual was performed during daytime on the next day. The delay created a hue and cry across the state.

Earlier this year, the temple administration had said it would not reveal the inquiry report on the incident to the public, ‘even under Right to Information (RTI) Act’.
